The Mellon Homestead
Explore the Mellon Homestead
A guided tour of the Mellon Homestead as part of European Heritage Open Days, in partnership with the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies
FULLY BOOKEDThis unique tour will celebrate Thomas Mellon, who in 1818, left his farm alongside his family in Castletown, Omagh for a new life in America. Over time, the place that they called home changed and evolved. We'll be delving into the life of the Mellon family and the surrounding landscape on this guided tour on Saturday 13th September.
Starting at the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies, you'll be introduced to the lives the family left behind, and learn how Castletown and Omagh has changed from then to now. You'll then walk to the Mellon Homestead where you will see the Mellon House, the surrounding landscape and have the opportunity to see other areas which are not typically open to the public!
This is a free guided tour as part of European Heritage Open Days, however you must book your place in advance as slots are limited.
The tour starts and ends at the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies, located at the Ulster American Folk Park.
We recommend wearing suitable footwear and clothing, as part of the tour is outdoors.
Who will take the tour? The tour will be led by Dr Liam Campbell and Dr Patrick Fitzgerald from the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies.
In partnership with the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies for European Heritage Open Days.
